  1. Heat broiler with rack 6 inches from heat.
  2. Heat olive oil in large skillet over medium heat. Add gnocchi and break up any clumps. Cover with lid and cook for 2 to 4 minutes until golden brown on one side. Remove from pan and set aside in bowl.
  3. Add butter and cook over medium high heat for about 1 to 2 minutes, stirring often, until golden brown. Add garlic, red pepper flake, and a few grinds of salt and pepper and sweat garlic. Add tomatoes and 3 tbsp of water and cook until tomatoes have soften and burst. Once they burst, smash burst tomatoes to help them along until liquid has thickened, about 4 to 6 minutes.
  4. Add cooked gnocchi and basil and toss to coat, then even the layer. Top with mozzarella and drizzle lightly with olive oil. Broil until cheese is melted and slightly browned in spots, about 2-4 minutes. Top with more basil, red pepper flake, and pepper if desired.
